Urvil Patel is an Indian economist who served as the 24th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from September 2016 to December 2018.
Prior to his governorship, Patel held various positions at the <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/International%20Monetary%20Fund">International Monetary Fund</a> (IMF), including working on the US, India, Bahamas, and Myanmar desks. He was also a consultant to the government of India.
He holds a doctorate in economics from Yale University.
During his tenure as RBI Governor, Patel oversaw significant developments, including the demonetization of high-value currency notes in November 2016. His resignation in December 2018 led to discussions regarding the <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/RBI%20autonomy">RBI autonomy</a> and the government's role in its affairs. He also focused on managing <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/inflation">inflation</a>.
